In addition, the Office of Instruction is responsible for developing the Class Schedule, managing and evaluating faculty, handling complaints/concerns from students about instruction/teaching, Coastline's Online Library, and the Student Success Resource Center (SSRC).

Vice President of Instruction (VPI)
The Vice President of Instruction works directly with the deans and the faculty to support them in their jobs and is responsible for the quality of Coastline's academic programs and the quality of instruction and student academic support.
Isela Ocegueda, Ph.D. serves as Vice President of Instruction at Coastline College, where she leads academic programs, curriculum, and strategic planning with a strong focus on equity and institutional effectiveness.
Dr. Ocegueda started at Coastline College in 2022 and is proud to have led and contributed to some important accomplishments at the college since, including advancing enrollment growth, implementing California’s first credit-bearing Direct Assessment Competency-Based Education program, supporting the development of the College’s first MESA program, and championing expanded access for incarcerated students statewide.
A committed advocate for diversity, inclusion, and student success, Dr. Ocegueda has ensured impactful application of grant funding, fostered innovative faculty development, and built cross-sector partnerships that enhance educational opportunities for California’s diverse community college students.
With over a decade of higher education leadership experience, Dr. Ocegueda has also served as an academic dean in the California Community College system, as well as an assistant dean who supported graduate student success at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). In addition to her experience as an administrator in higher education, Dr. Ocegueda taught English and Chicana/o Studies for over 15 years in both Texas and Arizona community colleges.
Dr. Ocegueda earned her bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, her master’s degree from Harvard University, and her doctorate from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Academic Deans
Deans work directly with faculty to encourage welcoming classroom environments and excellence in teaching, even if the class is online. If you have questions/concerns about a class that your instructor may not address, the dean is the person to make an appointment with.
