If you're applying to a CSU online program as a transfer student, you’ll need to complete the CSU Apply application.
On the application, be sure to select the CSU campus with "Online" along with your intended major. This selection will confirm both the availability of the major online and the CSU campus offering it.Most CSU campuses extend their application deadlines for online programs beyond the standard on-campus deadlines of November 30 for fall admission and August 31 for spring. For example, many campuses accept fall applications for online programs through May or June for fall, and September or October for spring.
Be sure to check the CSU Apply website for campus-specific deadlines and updates.
Online CSU Application Fee and Tuition
CSU Online programs are offered through University Extension, a self-supporting division. As a result:
- Application fee waivers are not available for the $70 CSU Apply fee.
- Tuition is slightly higher per unit than on-campus courses, with different fee and refund policies.
- The CSU State University Grant (SUG) is not available, but students can still receive federal financial aid.
Online tuition rates are available by checking each campus and major. All transfer students are encouraged to apply for financial aid through the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application.
Check the Source Column
Select CSU campuses offer fully online programs at the same tuition rate as their on-campus programs. Your online degree program will have the same campus-based unit tuition rate if "Campus" is indicated in the Source Column of the CSU Search Majors website.
- Visit the CSU Search Majors website.
- Select your major and filter by checking "Online Degrees Only."
- Once you are in the CSU and major, look on the chart for Source column. Review whether the program is offered through Campus (same tuition as on-campus) or Extension (typically higher tuition because this is a self-supporting arm of the university).
Note: Online programs may vary in format—asynchronous (on your own time) or synchronous (scheduled online class times).
If your online degree is available through the campus (Source Column), you may also be eligible for a $70 application fee waiver and the CSU State University Grant (SUG).
