Textbook Assistance (DAP)
Supporting our students with book vouchers and technology. The Student Equity department offers the Dolphin Assistance Program (DAP) to support students with textbook assistance through a book voucher and borrowing technology. Review the offerings below to check your eligibility! Please contact studentequity@coastline.edu with any questions.
*The Fall 2026 DAP application will open Monday August 10, 2026 at 9am PST*
The Fall 2026 DAP application closes: October 30, 2026 at 11pm PST
The Dolphin Assistance Program (DAP) book voucher is awarded to eligible students in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters based on program funding availability, student program eligibility, and financial aid eligibility. Students participating in the DAP Book Voucher program agree to have a current FAFSA application on file with Coastline College. Students must participate in one workshop/event OR meet with the Transfer Counselor per semester.
- Vouchers for the Fall 26 semester are as followed: 0-2.5units = NA, 3-6.5units = $150, 7+units =$300
- Vouchers will be approved on a rolling basis until October 30, 2026.
- Students must be enrolled in at least one class (min 3 units) for Fall 2026 at Coastline College to qualify.
- Students must have a current 26-27yr FAFSA application on file for Coastline College.
- Purchases may be for your course books/materials only through Coastline College's bookstore.
- There will be no cash back for unused amounts.
- No cash refunds will be given for items purchased with this voucher.
- Return of any books purchased with this voucher is subject to the return policy of the Coastline College bookstore.
- Any funding left over from Fall 26 can be used for intercession 2027 class(es). NO ADDITIONAL funding will be issued/awarded for intercession 2027.
Submitting the program application does not guarantee a book voucher. It is contingent upon student eligibility and available funds. All exchanges and returns are done at the bookstore in compliance with the bookstore's return/exchange policy.
All books and required course material (lab kits) purchased are subject to audit. Violation of any of the above terms will result in the requirement to reimburse the college for the total amount of books purchased with the voucher. The individual will also be excluded from future voucher eligibility.

Book Voucher Eligibility
To be considered for the Dolphin Assistance Program book voucher, students must meet all the eligibility criteria listed below:
- Must be a current Coastline student registered for Fall 2026.
- Must be enrolled in 3 credited units minimum at Coastline College.
- Must be impacted in a way that prohibits your student success.
- Must have completed and submitted the Dolphin Assistance Program (DAP) application.
- Must have a 26/27yr FAFSA application on file for Coastline College.
Students already receiving book voucher assistance from other programs such as EOPS, CARE, NextUp, Guardian Scholars, CalWORKs, Undocumented/Dream Resources, LOTUS, PACE +, Veterans (VRC) or Military and Contract Education do not qualify.
For Fall, Spring and Summer semesters, eligibility criteria will be checked immediately after the last withdrawal deadline in the preceding semester. All eligibility criteria must be met at that time.

Book Voucher FAQs
- How often can I get a book voucher?
- Students may only receive 1 book voucher per semester.
- I am also a student at OCC and GWC, can I use my book voucher there?
- No, Book Vouchers can only be used at Coastline Colleges online bookstore. You will only be allocated for the number of units you are taking at Coastline.
- Can I use my book voucher on Amazon or another site?
- No, book vouchers are only redeemable through the Coastline bookstore.
- My professor listed the wrong textbook. How can I return it and get the correct one?
- View the refund policy of our bookstore for the process and questions for exchange/refund Bookstore
- I didn't use the entire book voucher amount. Can I receive cash for the rest?
- No, there is no cash back for unused amounts.
- Can I use my book voucher for multiple semesters?
- Your book voucher can only be used during the semester it is allocated. You can apply for another book voucher the following semester.
- If I withdraw from my course, do I still need to complete the program requirements?
- Yes, students that withdraw are required to return physical items and complete the semester requirement.
- Can I be reimbursed for course materials that I buy with the book voucher?
- No, refunds will not be given for items purchased with the book voucher.

Distribution
After applying for a book voucher, students will receive an email from the Student Equity Office within 24-48 business hours confirming receipt. Once confirmed, processing takes an additional 3-5 business days.

Returns
What To Return
All technology items must be returned by the end of the semester.
For Summer 2026, all items must be returned by August 21, 2026.
For Fall 2026, all items must be returned by December 17, 2026.
Students have two options on how they can return physical items:

How to Find Classes with Free Textbooks
Looking for classes with free textbooks? Follow these steps:
- Go to coastline.edu and select "Class Schedule & Catalog" under Academics.
- Once you've opened the searchable class schedule, select the desired term.
- Select the subject(s) you want to take.
- Under Attributes, select "Zero Cost Materials."
- After you hit search, all classes with free materials and textbooks will appear.
