Supporting student success with book borrowing and book vouchers.
Supporting our students with book borrowing and book vouchers.
Basic Needs, under the direction of Student Equity, offers the Dolphin Assistance Program (DAP). This program supports students with two textbook offerings through a book borrowing collection and/or book voucher. Review offerings below to check eligibility!
Any questions should be directed to basicneeds@coastline.edu.
Book borrowing is available through the Dolphin Assistance Program (DAP).
The Dolphin Assistance Program contains a collection of books from within the Coastline community for students to borrow at no cost for the duration of the class/classes that require the borrowed book.
Books offered are based on availability.
Students who borrow a book are participants in the Dolphin Assistance Program and agree to attend a workshop, return the book(s), and complete a survey at the conclusion of the semester.
To be issued a textbook from the Dolphin Assistance Program borrowing collection students must meet all the eligibility criteria listed below:
The Dolphin Assistance Program book voucher is awarded to eligible students in Fall, Spring, and Summer terms based on program funding availability, student program eligibility and financial aid eligibility. Students participating in the Book Voucher program agree to return their books to the Basic Needs Office at the conclusion of the semester, to be donated to the Coastline lending library and complete a follow up survey.
Spring 2023 application opens at 9am (PST) Thursday, December 15, 2022.
Students will be notified of book voucher status by January 6, 2023.
The program does not guarantee a book voucher service. It is contingent upon student eligibility and available funds. All exchanges and returns are done at the bookstore in compliance with the bookstore's return/exchange policy.
All books and required course material (lab kits) purchased are subject to audit. Violation of any of the above terms will result in the requirement to reimburse the college for the total amount of books purchased with the voucher. The individual will also be excluded from future voucher eligibility.

Book Borrow: Any textbooks borrowed.
Book Voucher: All physical items (textbooks, CDs, calculators, etc.) bought with a book voucher. Does not include online PDF versions of textbooks, lab kits, and one-time access codes.
Students have two options on how they can return physical items:
For Spring 2023, please return items by May 27, 2023.
At the end of every semester, students who receive a book voucher are asked to complete a survey regarding their experience with our program. We value student feedback as we continuously strive to improve our program to best support students.
Those who participate will receive an Amazon gift card. Students may only submit one survey response per semester.
