
Student Rights and Responsibilities
Students are responsible for:
- Providing DSPS with the necessary information, documentation and/or forms (medical, educational, etc.) to verify their disability. If they do not currently have access to documentation, they understand that they may be qualified for temporary accommodation upon DSPS Counselor approval with the understanding that they obtain documentation as soon as possible.
- Complying with Coastline College’s Student Code of Conduct: Student Code of Conduct.
- In order to continue permanent services and accommodations, students must engage in an interactive process in creating an Academic Accommodation Plan (AAP) and update it as needed.
- Meeting with a DSPS Counselor to request my academic accommodations each semester.
- Utilizing services/accommodations in a responsible manner and understand DSPS has policies and procedures they must adhere to for continuation of services.
- Meeting academic standards established by Coastline as applied to all students.
- Understanding that services/accommodations are not retroactive, and they will notify DSPS of any modification to my class schedule as soon as possible so that they can provide my “Reasonable Accommodation Letter” to their instructors.
- Understanding that DSPS services are directly related to the educational process at Coastline College and may not apply to other institutions or organizations.
- Attendance: Students understand that if they are ten (10) or more minutes late to their scheduled DSPS appointment that they have forfeited that time and must reschedule.
Students have the right to:
- Receive services and reasonable accommodations based on their disability-related limitations according to state and federal guidelines.
- Have disability-related information be treated with confidentiality.
- Appeal decisions made by the DSPS office.
Students must understand that:
- Participation in the DSPS program shall be entirely voluntary.
- DSPS may release information to professionals who have an educational need to know under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Participating in DSPS does not preclude them from participating in any other course, program, or activity offered by the College.
