Why Transfer to a CSU?
- 23 campuses statewide, many close to home or work.
- Apply twice a year: Fall or Spring.
- Flexible part-time, evening, and weekend schedules.
- Select fully online BA/BS programs available through CSU Extension or individual campuses.
Note: Online Extension programs may have higher per-unit costs than campus-based programs. - Semester system aligns with Coastline’s schedule.
- Lower tuition and overall costs compared to UC and private universities.
- Admission may be impacted; priority is based on your current college’s location, not your home address.
As you apply to any of the 23 CSU campuses, be aware that impaction and access may affect your application status. The CSU's Local Area Preference (or Service Area) is determined by the college location, not the applicant's residence.

University Campus Tours
Coastline College, in partnership with Golden West College, offers campus tours to local and regional universities. Coastline students can sign up and join tours departing from the Golden West College Transfer Center.

The CSU has complied this virtual campus tour access that connects you to campus services - including CSU Outreach Services - networking webinars designed for transfer students, and how to book an individual on-campus tour.
Local Admission:
CSU Fullerton & CSU Long Beach
Coastline College is in the local admission area for both CSU Fullerton and CSU Long Beach. This gives Coastline transfer applicants admission prioritization for most majors—excluding some impacted programs like Nursing.
Southern California CSU campuses receive more applications than they can admit. Visit the CSU Impaction website to see where each community college fall within the CSU local admission preference and service areas. CSUs determine local admission/service area by the college attended, not the applicant's residence.

Coastline is in CSU Fullerton’s local admission area. As a result, Coastline transfer students receive priority admission consideration—with more moderate GPA cutoffs—compared to applicants from non-Orange County community colleges, who may face higher GPA requirements.

Since Coastline College is in the local admission area of CSU Long Beach, our transfer applicants will receive "Local Preference" for admission consideration. Bragging Rights: Cal State Long Beach receives the highest number of applications within the CSU system which drives admission competitiveness.

The CSU Application
To access the online CSU application, go to CSU Apply. Choose the term you are applying for and create an account to begin your application.
Documents to have ready:
An unofficial transcript from each college you’ve attended, which you’ll use to self-report your academic history on the application.

Students have two opportunities each year to apply to a CSU campus:
- Fall Admission
- Application opens: October 1
- Application deadline: November 30
- Spring Admission
- Application opens: August 1
- Application deadline: August 31

After Submitting Your CSU Application:
- Check your email regularly for important messages and instructions from the CSU campuses.
- Stay informed: Each CSU campus you applied to will provide updates on the status of your application.
- Be prepared to submit additional information if requested by the campus.
- Transcript requests: If a CSU campus asks for official or unofficial transcripts, you can order your official transcript through your MyCoast Student Portal under the “My Records” tab.
- Graduation Reminder: Don’t forget to submit your petition to graduate! Visit the Petition to Graduate website to apply and review the submission timeline. Once everything is submitted, you can look forward to celebrating and taking part in Coastline’s Spring Commencement Ceremony.
Opportunity for Recent High School Grads: CSU Transfer Success Pathway
If you just graduated from high school and did not receive any college units after high school graduation, you could be eligible for the CSU Transfer Success Pathway - Dual Admission to the CSU Program that guarantees admission to a CSU campus of your choice while completing your AA or AS degree at Coastline College!
How to Apply:
- Visit the CSU Transfer Planner to create your account and start your application.
- Applications open from August 1 - October 31. Don’t miss out—submit your application by 11:59 PM on October 31.
