Student Design Contest
2023 Student Design Contest - I (heart) Coastline!
What's your favorite thing about Coastline College? Show us on a t-shirt! Design a t-shirt showcasing your favorite aspect of Coastline to be sold on The Pier, our online student shop!
The Coastline Marketing Department is looking for more student designs for The Pier, and we want to know - what's your favorite thing about Coastline? Is it one of our clubs that you're a part of? Are you a local student who loves being able to go to class by the beach? Or an online student who loves going to school wherever you want to on any particular day? Maybe you love the diversity of your classmates, our awesome and knowledgeable faculty, or our helpful and supportive college staff? Whatever you love most about Coastline we want to see, so we're challenging you to design a t-shirt for The Pier showcasing what you think makes Coastline awesome!

The Specifics
Run dates: Deadline extended! Thursday, December 15th - Sunday, March 5th (11:59pm). Winners to be announced by Monday, March 13th.
Theme: I (heart) Coastline! What is your favorite thing about Coastline?
Testimonial: New to this round of the Student Design Contest, we not only want to see your design, but we want to know what inspired it as well. In addition to your design, all submissions must include one short paragraph explaining the inspiration behind the design. Requirements for the paragraph:
- One paragraph required - additional writing is welcome, but the amount of writing will not have any weight in the decision process.
- Minimum of 75 words, or 3 - 4 sentences.
- Paragraph should explain what your favorite thing about Coastline College is and why, including any additional information about what inspired your design.
Send submissions to: marketing@coastline.edu - email must include student's name, student's ID#, and attached graphic files. Paragraph testimonial can either be written directly in the email body or attached as a word document or PDF. Email subject should read "The Pier Student Design Contest Submission." Winning students will be notified by email on or around Tuesday, March 7th, and must reply and accept their winning placement no later than Sunday, March 12th.
The Criteria
- Design must feature placement of ONLY ONE of either the Coastline shield logo or nameplate logo. Logo files can be downloaded from coastline.edu/branding.
- Logo use must be in good taste, with no adjustments to the aspect ratio of the logo used - in other words, logo(s) may be resized as needed but the original dimensions must remain intact. No graphical additions, edits, or color changes can also be made to any version of the Coastline logo.
- Complementary imagery to the college may be used (ex. ocean or beach themes, dolphins, etc.), as long as it is not incorporated directly into the Coastline logo. Again, absolutely no additions or edits to the original logo used will be accepted.
- Students will need to submit a high-resolution (300dpi) file of their final design. Accepted file formats: JPG, PNG, PDF. Compressed zip files will also be accepted. Two sided designs (shirts with both a front and back design) will be accepted!
The Rules
- Designs must be the original, unpublished work of the student.
- Work cannot contain any copyrighted imagery such as licensed characters, logos, likenesses, or phrases.
- Design platforms such as Canva, Custom Ink, or other Create-Your-Own platforms cannot be used. Any submission found to have been created with such services will be disqualified.
- If royalty-free imagery (free-share sites such as Unsplash.com) or subscription image services (Shutterstock, Getty Images) is used, the student must ensure all usage rights as described by the particular site are being followed.
- Absolutely no offensive imagery or wording will be accepted.
- Hand-drawn or painted designs will be accepted for this contest, however, it must be noted that designs will need to be able to be scanned digitally in order to be printed onto the shirt. Hand-drawn designs will still only be accepted digitally - do not hand deliver or mail in submissions. If picked, slight digital edits and manipulations might have to be made to the final design by the marketing department for printing purposes.
- A submission to this contest means if a student's design is selected, the student consents to having their design reproduced and sold by Coastline College without the student receiving monetary compensation from those sales.
- The selected design(s) will become property of Coastline College. Winning students may display their design(s) in a portfolio or personal collection but may not sell or reproduce the design(s) for commercial purposes once their design has been chosen as winner(s) of this contest.
The Pier
