Financial Hardship Support
Experiencing unexpected financial challenges while attending college can be stressful - but you don't have to navigate it alone. The Basic Needs team is here to support students facing financial hardship due to unforeseen circumstances that may impact their ability to meet essential needs while continuing their education.
You may be eligible for a Basic Needs Grant if you are experiencing financial challenges such as:
- A sudden loss of income or significant reduction in work hours.
- Difficulty paying for essential living expenses due to unexpected financial hardship.
- Financial strain caused by a medical emergency or illness.
- Difficulty keeping up with rent or housing-related expenses due to financial hardship.
- Risk of eviction or housing instability related to financial challenges.
- Unexpected expenses related to moving, deposits, or securing stable housing.
- Financial challenges while transitioning out of foster care, incarceration, or another major life transition.
- Difficulty covering basic needs such as food, utilities, transportation, or healthcare.
- Uncertainty about where to start or need a talk through your financial situation with someone.

- Must be enrolled at Coastline College.
- Must be enrolled at least part-time at Coastline College (3 credited units or more).
- Be able to demostrate urgent financial need with supporting documentation.
If you are experiencing financial hardship, we encourage you to click on the link to be connected to a basic needs team member. The Basic Needs team is here to listen, provide guidance, and connect you with avaliable resources and support.
The Basic Needs Grant is designed to assist with one-time, non-recuring financial hardships, subject to funding availability. Supporting documentation is required to determine eligiblity. Students can receive this grant 1 time per academic year.

Career Closet - Free Professional Attire
The Basic Needs Program partnered with MyCareerCloset to help studetns feel confident and prepared for interviews, internships, and starting their first job. Through this partnership, 60 vouchers are avalaible to support students who may need access to professional attire.
How to use a MyCareerCloset Voucher:
Step 1: Request a Voucher
Complete the Student Assistance Form through the Basic Needs Program. Eligible students will receive a voucher code from the Basic Needs Team.
Step 2: Visit the MyCareerCloset Website
Go to: https://mycareercloset.myhyde.com/uni/coastline-community-basic-needs/
Step 3: Book your Styling appointment
- Click "Book Now" to meet with a stylist
- Select your gender
- Complete your profile information
- Under question #2, select "No, I already have a voucher"
- Continue through the remaining questions
Step 4: Checkout
- Enter the voucher code provided by the Basic Needs team in the "Enter Coupon Code" field
- Please note: A temporary $1.00 hold will be place on your card to ensure all items are returned within 30 days notice.
Step 5: Recieve Your Clothing
- Your professional attire will be delivered directly to your door, ready for your interview, internship, or first day on the job.
