Constitution Day and Citizenship Day are observed each year on September 17 to commemorate the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787, and "recognize all who, by coming of age or by naturalization, have become citizens." In 2004, through Senator Robert C. Byrd's leadership, Congress included key provisions in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of Fiscal Year 2005, requiring public schools and government agencies to provide educational programs to promote a better understanding of the Constitution. (Public Law 108-477)
Join us to learn more about the US Constitution and why it is still important today. Often referred to as a "living document," this Zoom webinar will examine the highlights of the Constitution, such as freedom of speech and immigration rights. All are welcome to enjoy this free, fun online event on Thursday, Sept. 17th, 2020 at 11am.
On June 15, 1954, Congress passed and President Eisenhower signed into law a statute that was clearly consistent with the text and intent of the Constitution of the United States, that amended the Pledge of Allegiance to read: 'I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America...'
Coastline College strives to educate students and community members about the U.S. Constitution and citizenship through interactive activities, events, and web resources. Student Services often collaborates with student leaders to distribute information pertaining to the U.S. Constitution and the responsibilities of citizenship at its three neighborhood campuses.

National Archives' history of the living document
Complete the census at 2020census.gov by September 30th.
When you respond to the census, you help your community get its fair share of federal funds (for schools, hospitals, roads, etc.). Businesses use census data to decide where to build - in other words: more jobs. The census also affects emergency response, redistricting, and more.
