Coastline's Student Equity Office defines Student Equity as fair access, opportunity, and advancement for all students, while working to address systemic barriers especially those of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability, gender, language, and family background that prohibit student success. All of the people involved in Student Equity are committed to allowing each student to have individualized instruction, opportunity, and the support needed for success.
Through Equity, Coastline shifts the focus of responsibility from the students to Coastline Administration.
As a student at Coastline we want to ensure that your basic needs are met to assist you in reaching our goals of student success. The Office of Student Equity in collaboration with other departments of campus have resources available to assist Coastline Students.
Coastline students can borrow textbooks for classes through the Dolphin Textbook loan program. Students will need to complete the application to qualify.

Need a computer or webcam to attend your online courses? Students can apply for Coastline's Emergency Computer Loan Program. Computers can be borrowed to assist in the completion of classes, however must be returned. If interested, please complete and submit the Technology Access Form

Coastline Community College extends to all students the right to file a complaint or grievance to be addressed. Coastline. The right to grieve may be initiated at any time when the student has a grievance against any college employee, policy, or procedure at Coastline Community College.
If you as a student have experienced, harassment, discrimination or would like to share any concerns, we ask that you do so.
Every effort will be made to preserve confidentiality as grievances are fairly and equitably considered. The procedures allow students to exhaust every administrative level possible to receiving a fair and complete hearing of their concerns in an effort to seek resolution.
Due to students’ diverse needs and realities, the College will educate faculty, staff, and students on resources and support available for different populations. Through training and education, students will have contact with employees who are able to assist them in meeting their education goals. The trainings and resources that have been offered include the following: Safe Zone Training for LGBTQAI+, Vet Net, Undocually, 1st Gen, Cultural Awareness at an AANAPISI Institution and LGBTQAi+ resources for students.
The brown bag series is discussions are being hosted by the Diversity Workgroup to help facilitate discussion around diverse topics that important to our college and work. Topics include: White Guilt, Unearned Privilege and Discomfort with hearing or speaking other languages.
Faculty will be supported with a stipend to create and share an online Canvas module/activity that is equity minded. Workshops will be held to educate faculty on specific ideas for development of the activity, and faculty will be compensated with the stipend after the activity/module is completed and shared.
In order to increase access and retention, Coastline has starting a book lending program, to remove the barrier of students not enrolling in classes due to economic hardships regarding purchasing books.

Coastline College is planning to start an Umoja Community on-campus; the College will be a part of the larger Coast District Umoja Community.
Coastline's Umoja Community plans to create an environment to promote student success and improved lifetime outcomes for all students through a curriculum that is responsive to the legacy of the African and African American Diasporas. This includes providing culturally relevant services and information to students of color and from diverse backgrounds.

The Student Equity book voucher is awarded to eligible students in Fall, Spring, and Summer terms based on program funding availability, student program eligibility and financial aid eligibility. Students participating in the Book Voucher program agree to return their books to the Student Equity Office at the conclusion of the semester, to be donated to the Coastline lending library.
Submit a Book Voucher Application
The program does not guarantee a book voucher service. It is contingent upon student eligibility and available funds. All exchanges and returns are done at the bookstore in compliance with the bookstore's return/exchange policy.
All books and required course material (lab kits) purchased are subject to audit. Violation of any of the above terms will result in the requirement to reimburse the college for the total amount of books purchased with the voucher. The individual will also be excluded from future voucher eligibility.

To be considered for the SEA book voucher, students must meet all the eligibility criteria listed below:
Students already receiving supplement book voucher assistance from other programs such as EOPS, CARE, NextUp, Guardian Scholars, CalWORKs, College Promise, AB19, or Veteran, do NOT qualify.
For Fall and Spring semesters, eligibility criteria will be checked immediately after the last withdrawal deadline in the preceding semester. All eligibility criteria must be met at that time.
Submit application for Spring starting January 7. Student must be registered for Spring 2021.

In 2017-2018, Coastline defined Guided Pathways efforts as an equity-based mindset and practice to facilitate student success. Equity is defined as achieving parity in student educational outcomes for all student groups at Coastline. Our Guided Pathways efforts are using an equity lens to examine the following and the impact on historically marginalized students:

Committee Mandate: The Student Equity and Achievement Work Group provides direction for the efforts, implementation, and evaluation of the ongoing Student Equity and Achievement Plan, which is intended to encourage student engagement and guide teaching practices, as well as foster an inclusive and equitable campus environment. The Work Group members act as area representatives, providing recommendations and direction regarding mandates, applicable legislation, and needs.
