Steps to Request Funding for Professional Conferences/Workshops
At least six weeks prior to the event, faculty members carrying a minimum of 7.5 LHE seeking funding from PDI should:
- Complete a Coastline PDI Conference and Workshop Funds Application.
- Complete a CCCD Conference Authorization Request (indicate Academic-CFE). Maximum individual reimbursement per fiscal year through PDI is $2,000 total. Additional funding (up to $300) beyond the PDI limit may be available directly through the Coast Federation of Educators (see Forms) in a separate request process. Note: Part-time faculty with assignments at more than one college in the District are recommended to apply for funding through the college where most LHE are held. If an equal amount of LHE are held between colleges in the District, the applicant may choose where to apply. Note: Faculty members who carry fewer than 7.5 LHE should indicate Part Time-CCA on the CCCD Conference Authorization Form and reach out to their dean's office and the Coast Community College Association for more information.
- Submit the Coastline PDI Conference and Workshop Funds Application, the CCCD Conference Authorization Request, and an official event announcement to your dean's office.
- Wait to receive a CCCD Approval Letter/Reimbursement Claim Form in your campus mail.
- Attend the event.
After the event:
- Within 10 days, complete the CCCD Approval Letter/Reimbursement Claim Form and attach necessary receipts.
- Complete the Conference Report Summary Form.
- Submit the above packet to your dean's office.
- Wait to receive notification that your reimbursement check is ready.
If you do not attend the approved event, submit a non-attendance statement along with the CCCD Approval Letter/Reimbursement Claim Form to your dean's office.

- Represent your discipline/department!
- Enhance your CV/resume!
- Highlight this achievement in your program/department review report!
Salary Advancement For Full-Time Faculty
PDI provides methods for salary advancement for full-time faculty members. Full details are provided in the current CFE contract in the chapter for Professional Development Institute. For information, please contact PDI Co-chair Professor Danny Pittaway (dpittaway@coastline.edu).
Sabbatical Leave
PDI helps full-time faculty members apply for sabbatical leave, which is also explained in the CFE contract chapter for Professional Development Institute. Each fall semester an email is sent during Week 1 with information about the application process, including the intent to file form.
