Claudia Vernon has been a Mental Health Therapist at Coastline since the department’s inception in January of 2019. Claudia earned her B.A. in Social Work from Cal State University Long Beach and an M.A. in Social Work from Barry University, Florida with an emphasis in trauma-informed clinical practice. She has been practicing as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.) for approximately 20 years. Claudia has also provided clinical supervision to countless graduate student interns and post graduate associates in the mental health field for over 15 years.
Claudia offers a breadth of knowledge to Coastline’s Student Mental Health Services as she has had experience working in multiple settings with all age groups. She had begun her professional career in social services working with children who had experienced abuse - and their families. Her career path has led her through Community Mental Health agencies as well as private higher education institutions.
Day to day, Claudia reaches out to students about mental well-being and presents mental health informed webinars. She sees students individually and in groups. Additionally, Claudia oversees many of the administrative tasks of Student Mental Health Services and provides clinical supervision and consultation to mental health associate and intern therapists at Coastline.
She loves working with college students - no matter what age - because she gets to be part of a transformative time in people's lives. She enjoys helping students become a more wonderful version of themselves, transforming from chrysalis to butterfly.
Ms. Hurst comes to Coastline's Mental Health Counceling with a B.A. in Psychology, a M.A. in Counseling, and an APCC (BBS Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor). She also belongs to the CA Association for Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (CALPCC).
Since 2011 Ms. Hurst has worked with students of all ages and their families in a Cognitive-Educational Therapy setting, providing assessment, consultation, intervention and case management, as well as being a part of an IEP team. She also provided counseling services to at-risk youth (ages 5-18) in an outpatient clinic based setting.
Briana Hurst has extensive knowledge and background in working with clients who have learning and attention challenges, including those on the Autism spectrum and clients who have experienced traumatic brain injuries (TBI). She is also familiar in working with the foster/adopt youth population and children who reside in group homes.With a Bachelors from UC Irvine in Psychology and Social Behavior, a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University, and as a member of PsiChi Honor Society for Psychology, Ms. Neshatian - with an emphasis in marriage and family - brings a lot to Coastline's Student Mental Health team.
Before Coastline, she worked at a community mental health center. At Coastline, aside from offering mental health couseling, Ms. Neshatian builds outreach and awareness for mental health services through relaxation technique videos, hoping to destigmatize mental health.
In therapy sessions, Ms. Neshatian works collaboratively with clients, giving students a space where they don't feel judged and can feel fulfilled. She helps students gain insight and make strategies to meet their goals.
Nooshin Neshatian looks forward to offering students more resources and services at Coastline.
When not at work, Ms. Neshatian spends time with her daughter and family. She enjoys a lot of outdoor activities, like hiking El Moro Trail by Laguna Beach, as well as art and painting.
At Coastline, Cheyenne focuses on helping students through their opportunities for growth and supports them in developing the tools, the mindfulness, and the insight that assist in navigating schooling and mental health.
Cheyenne Smith, MSW received her BA at U.C. Santa Barbara with an emphasis in Sociology and Psychology. Cheyenne went on to the University of Southern California where she received her Masters in Social Work. Cheyenne's studies included an emphasis in mental health services working with children, transitional aged youth (ages 16-26), and families.
Cheyenne has acquired experience working with college students, parents, and youth in adjustment and transition to, from, and through university settings, work places, parenthood, and grief/bereavement. In most recent years Cheyenne has worked in an outpatient mental health settings where she has gained experience conducting psychosocial assessments and working with individuals, groups, and families in reaching mental health goals. Cheyenne has experience working with Cognitive Behavioral based therapies, expressional art based therapies, Dialectical Behavioral informed therapy and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Cheyenne believes in a collaborative approach to therapy and tailors services to each individual.
