Student Club Branding and Accessibility Guidelines
Student clubs at Coastline College provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, connect with faculty and staff, and contribute to campus life. These clubs are independent, student-run organizations and do not serve as official representatives of the College. This independence allows them to express their own identity; however, they must still follow certain guidelines. Club logos and communications must clearly identify the group as a student organization and comply with the Student Code of Conduct, accessibility standards, and all other applicable laws and policies.
Student Clubs: What You Can and Cannot Do
You Can:
-
Create Your Own Visual Identity: At Coastline College, we encourage student clubs to create and manage their own brand identity by designing their own logos, flyers, posters, social media posts, and other materials that reflect the club’s unique personality and goals.
-
Create a Club Logo: Clubs may design their own logos and color schemes to build recognition within the student community.
-
Posting Flyers Around Campus: With approval from the appropriate campus area facilitators or center office, clubs may distribute and display flyers at Coastline locations, provided they comply with the Student Code of Conduct. See Coast Community College District Board Policy BP/AP 5500 .
-
Request Accessibility Support: Student clubs that receive public or federal funds must ensure their communications comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Marketing Department can connect you with our accessibility expert to review your materials and/or provide a short training on accessible design to get you on your way.
You Cannot:
-
Use or adapt official Coastline logos in your club logo: Coastline logos, the crest, seal, wordmark, and other official branding elements may not be used or altered for club purposes.
-
Present your club as an official Coastline department or program: All club materials must clearly indicate they are from a student organization, not an official office. This can be done by including “student club” or “club” in your club name.
-
Include Coastline’s logo without approval: The Coastline logo may only appear on club materials if the content is created under the supervision and approval of an official Coastline College department or program representative.

Accessibility Compliance
Clubs that receive public or federal funding are legally required to ensure all printed and digital communications meet ADA accessibility standards. This includes:
-
Using easy-to-read fonts and sufficient color contrast.
-
Providing alternative text (“alt text”) for images in digital materials.
-
Ensuring PDFs and other digital files are screen-reader friendly.
-
Avoiding small font sizes and overly dense layouts.
