Art
This major encourages the development of technical skills, art appreciation, and personal creative vision. Art majors begin with a series of foundation courses that are designed to develop students' understanding and application of visual language across a range of media. This major will equip students with a variety of skills and visual strategies that they will be able to apply in meaningful contexts. Through study of arts, students learn how to find creative solutions to problems and how to express their individuality.

Art - Associate of Arts Degree Major (60 units)
Art History
The Associate in Arts in Art History for Transfer at Coastline College fosters a deep appreciation for the greater understanding of art. Students in this discipline will gain the knowledge required to develop a global perspective relating to aesthetics, culture, diversity, and human creativity. An Art History program teaches students to weave the fundamentals of art and its history by using terminology, an appreciation of process, and visual literacy, to articulate the historical, social, and aesthetic functions of art. Art History is useful for students considering careers in museums and other cultural institutions, specifically as curators or archivists. Other avenues include art appraiser, art lawyer, and art/cultural consulting. Students graduating with an Associate in Arts in Art History for Transfer are well-positioned to complete a bachelor’s degree in Art History with an additional 60 units of upper-division coursework.
Associate Degrees for Transfer (AA-T or AS-T) are open to all Coastline students. Students who do not plan on transferring to a California State University school should consult their Counselor regarding the benefits of an AA-T/AS-T degree based on their goals. Students earning an AA-T or AS-T and intending on transferring to a California State University school receive transfer admission benefits for specific majors at many California State University campuses. Arts and Humanities
The Arts and Humanities courses introduce the student to diverse aspects of human life in world cultures. Students will examine the ways that art and culture have influenced history and the ways those decisions affect the way we interact with other people in our everyday lives.
Some university majors within the Arts and Humanities include Art, English, Interior Design, Foreign Languages, History, Linguistics, Literature, Music, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Theater Arts.

Studio Arts
The Associate in Arts in Studio Arts for Transfer at Coastline College fosters a deep appreciation for the greater understanding of the studio arts. Students in this discipline will gain the technical skills required to develop an artistic portfolio relating to the use of tools, materials and concepts in art and design. A Studio Art program teaches students to apply the fundamentals of art-making to the creation of an aesthetically pleasing work of art or design. Possible career paths include advertising, graphic design, arts administration, and illustration. Typically, institutions that employ art majors include museums, auction houses, art councils, educational institutions, interior design firms, advertising agencies, and film and media production companies.
