Detailed information about the ammenities and services found in Coastline's Information Commons can be obtained by clicking on any of the following links:
Computer Lab
Computer Lab is offered through a 1-unit course called “BC300L.” It supports both a MAC and PC environment. The material fees cover the cost of printing homework assignments. It has supporting hardware such as scanners, and printers available.
There is a lab assistant on site during all open lab hours who can provide general assistance for most students’ academic inquiries. For example, many students need to know how to begin working inside their “virtual” classroom, or how to use online applications such as “My Math Lab”. Others may need assistance with how to navigate Windows or use their “Flash Drive.” Some students do not need general support but they simply need a computer or printer. For whatever purpose, the computer lab provides general support for all currently enrolled Coastline Community College students as well as current faculty and staff.
Viewing and Lending Center for Distance Learning
The Information Commons is one of Distance Learning’s Viewing Center locations. Currently enrolled Coastline students may watch the instructional video lessons for free. Students simply bring in current ID such as a Drivers License which we exchange while they borrow the current lesson to watch. There are two televisions with DVD players to accommodate these students. Please note that all video lessons are to remain inside the Information Commons at all times. Duplication of lessons is strictly prohibited. (However, please contact the Distance Learning department if you wish to purchase the instructional videos.)
Also hosted here is the Textbook Lending Library. Currently enrolled Coastline students may borrow textbooks for free. Students simply bring in current ID such as a Drivers License which we exchange while they borrow the current textbooks to read. All textbooks are to remain inside the Information Commons at all times. There is no scanning or photocopying of textbooks allowed due to copyright law requirements. Please contact librarian, Cheryl Stewart at cstewart@coastline.edu for current list of textbooks available.
