To All Coastline Community College Faculty

With the start of the spring semester, there is a flurry of activity.  Energy is high as are hopes. We all start the semester with high expectations for our students and with a strong commitment for each student to succeed in our classes. The sense of a new beginning is marvelous and exciting.

At Coastline, we have new tools that help us to teach and our students to learn.  Our Seaport course management package now includes SQuiD (quiz and exam developer), integrated gradebook capabilities, more media access points, and more.  The Virtual Library hosts Turnitin and Gradebook, online services that aid students and instructors with written assignments.  The Instructional Systems Design (ISD) department offers workshops throughout the year on a variety of software, media, and hardware topics.  The Academic Senate will be hosting a number of training programs and informal get-togethers for faculty.

Coastline is joining the sustainability movement.  Last spring, approval was granted for us to go forward in developing the Sustainability Committee, a college-wide committee dedicated to researching and recommending environmentally responsible solutions to a variety of issues and problems.  We'll be exploring ways to reduce waste, improve energy consumption, minimize pollution, and take care of our mother, Earth.

We will continue to develop our commitment to Basic Skills education, to educational innovation, and to student success.  We will remember every day why we are here:  to provide opportunities for our students; to prepare citizens for our state and our world; and to make the world a better place one student at a time.

I look forward to our busy year ahead and to seeing you at Coastline's events, activities, trainings, workshops, or meetings.  My office is at College Center and my door is always open—please drop by when you are in the building!
